Research Technician - Dr. Nicole Buan
Department of Biochemistry, Redox Biology Center, Microbiology Initiative

Dr. Nicole Buan is seeking a highly motivated individual to join a team focused on understanding the basic metabolism and unique biochemistry of methane-producing archaea. Approximately 25% of energy use in the U.S. comes from burning non-renewable fossil methane (natural gas). Our goal is to engineer improved microbial strains for commercial large-scale methane production from renewable feedstocks. The successful candidate will have access to state-of-the art facilities in the George W. Beadle Center for Genetics Research and acquire experience in genetics, redox biochemistry, anaerobic microbiology, and bioinformatics analyses.

Responsibilities will include carrying out molecular, genetic, and biochemical experiments, and performing general lab maintenance duties. Bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, genetics, microbiology or a related field is required. Research experience in basic molecular biology (DNA/RNA analyses, PCR, DNA cloning, gel electrophoresis) and a willingness to learn new techniques is preferred. The position offers competitive salary and benefits package.
